Nusa Penida Snorkeling

This hub covers Nusa Penida snorkeling, from the manta ray site at Manta Bay to the reefs of Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Bay. Our local team shares what each site is like, who it suits and how a snorkel day works. As a result, you can decide if a day on the water fits your trip.

Where does Nusa Penida snorkeling happen?

Our snorkel trips visit four sites along the coast. Manta Bay is the famous one, because manta rays often come there to feed. However, wild animals keep their own schedule, so no one can promise a sighting. Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Bay then add calmer water and reef fish.

To learn more about these gentle giants, visit the Manta Trust, a charity that studies and protects manta rays around the world.

Can beginners join?

Yes. You do not need any swimming experience. We provide snorkel gear and life jackets, and local boat guides stay close to help beginners in the water. Of course, sea conditions change, so the boat crew picks the best sites on the day.

What should you bring? Pack swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen and a dry change of clothes. A light rash guard also helps, because the sun on the water feels strong by late morning. Then simply follow your boat guide’s lead.

Our West + Snorkeling Tour also includes land time at Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach. That way, you can mix Nusa Penida snorkeling with the island’s best cliff views in one private day.
